About the Book
Black Mountain Home is a novel by David Kherdian that was first published in 1998. The novel tells the story of the Armenian-American Zadoorian family as they navigate the challenges and joys of life in the early 20th century. The novel is set in the foothills of the Black Mountains of North Carolina, and Kherdian's vivid imagery and lyrical prose bring the setting to life.
The Zadoorian family is a close-knit group, but they are also dealing with their own individual challenges. The father, Garabed, is a hard-working farmer who is struggling to make ends meet. The mother, Mariam, is a strong and resourceful woman who is determined to keep her family together. The children, Arshag, Armen, and Anahid, are all bright and curious, but they are also facing the challenges of growing up in a new country.
Black Mountain Home is a story about family, heritage, and the power of imagination. Kherdian's characters are well-developed and relatable, and his writing is both beautiful and evocative. The novel is a must-read for anyone interested in Armenian-American literature or in the history of the early 20th century.
